Managing relationships

The psychological effects of Peyronie's Disease can be profound for both men and their partners. Many men experience feelings of helplessness, grief, anger and shame. Coupled with the actual physical effects of the disease, it's not surprising that these feelings can lead to problems including depression, emotional withdrawal and a refusal to discuss what is happening.

Men and women often have very different strategies for dealing with personal issues, with women tending toward more open communication while men are more likely to "shut down" and keep their problems to themselves. This only worsens the problem.

Communication is essential for any relationship to survive (much less prosper). That is what this forum is all about. The questions and responses from others going through the same thing can be helpful in showing the way to deal with this disease in our own lives. Hopefully the ability to ask the questions here that we are often unable to ask our partners will help facilitate openness and healing in our relationships.
