APDA is pleased to announce that Dr. Laurence Levine has been elected to our Board of Directors.
Respected among his peers, Dr Levine is well known for his research and treatment of Peyronie’s Disease. Recently he co-authored "Survey of primary care physicians and urologists regarding Peyronie's disease", a survey of 350 Physicians in his home state of Illinois. This survey concerned the level of physician knowledge about Peyronie’s Disease. The Survey was presented to the AUA at the 2005 convention. His conclusion in the study stated “The findings of this survey are a call to improve education about PD for primary care physicians and urologists.”
Dr. Levine also serves on our Medical Advisory Board and contributes to both the Topic Section and the “Ask the Doctor” section of our site. We are excited that he has consented to join us on our Board of Directors.

Oct 12, 2003
On Oct 12, 2003 members of the APDA Board of Directors met with Dr. John Mulhall in Denver, CO. to discuss the progress and the status of the APDA Medical Advisory Board, the Physicians Referral Database and the Public Forum, which is to debut on the APDA site at Peyroniesassociation.org in November.
Dr. Mulhall was attending a conference of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA). The SMSNA is an independent organization of health care professionals concerned with the science of Human Sexual Function and Dysfunction. Part of their mission (copied from their website at http://www.smsna.org/ is to identify existing and emerging issues in the field of human sexual function and dysfunction, provide accurate and credible information to medical professionals, develop standards and guidelines for impotence research and practice, and produce educational programs that bring leading-edge concepts of research, clinical practice, ethics, and politics to health care professionals interested in impotence and related matters.
During the course of the conference Dr Mulhall had the opportunity to speak with several associates about serving on the Medical Advisory Board, informing them of our mission and values and encouraging them to become involved. As a result of his efforts on our behalf, we are pleased to announce that the following physicians now represent APDA’s Medical Advisory Board:
Dr. Culley Carson III, M.D. – Immediate Past-president, Sexual Medicine Society Of North America, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Dr Wayne Hellstrom, M.D. - President, Sexual Medicine Society Of North America, Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans
Dr. Laurence Levine M.D. – Rush-Presbyterian Medical Center, Chicago
Dr. Ira Sharlip M.D.- Secretary, International Society Of Sex And Impotence Research, Pan Pacific Urological/Surgical Associates, San Francisco.
Each of these physicians is a member of the SMSNA and is considered by their peers to be leaders in the field of Peyronie’s Disease Research and Treatment.
We strongly suggest men who suffer from PD to advise their urologists and primary care physicians of this development. We would encourage all physicians who see patients with Peyronie’s Disease to support the efforts of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America in their efforts on behalf of those who suffer from all forms of sexual dysfunction.
